SigmaItalia’s latest manual tile cutter to hit the market is the Sigma Series 4. The Series 4 is available with either a push action or pull action. The push ‘NEX’ range has a choice of 5 different sizes whereas the ‘UP’ pull tile cutters only has a choice of 3 sizes.
The push action cutter is referred to as the ‘NEX’ model whereas the pull option is the ‘UP’. Apart from the cutting length the only difference between the 2 models is the handle. The handle used on either model is available to be purchased seperately therefore converting a push action into a pull action cutter and vice-versa.
It is entirely down to personal preference as to which model you choose, some prefer the push action manual tile cutter because it allows for a more accurate cut and is easier on the wrists, whereas some prefer the pull action because they can use their knees to stabilise the tile during cutting. Either way both models work just as well as each other.
The base of the Series 4 is made from a single piece of strengthened aluminium which makes it lighter and stronger than the Series 3. The handle is larger than that of the Series 3 and moves up and down on a ratchet system which means the bar no longer needs to be adjusted. A suspension system has also been incorporated into the Series 4 handle allowing the cutting of textured surfaced tiles.
To summarise, the Sigma Series 4 tile cutter is a natural evolution to the model range from the Series 3. As you would expect from any Sigma Tile Cutter is it very well made and extremely capable, it has a recommended cutting depth of 15mm, but like any tile cutter that depends on the tile being cut. The Series 4 will cut porcelain, glass mosaics and ceramic tiles.
All the models are due for sale from July 2022.
