This is our review of the MasterPiuma Montolit Tile Cutter, the review applies to all of the manual tile cutters in the MasterPiuma P3 range but in particular to the 93P3.
After using the MasterPiuma 93P3 for a few weeks we soon realised how proficient this tile cutter is. Most of the tiles we worked on were porcelain and no thicker than 20mm. Due to the size of this model in the MasterPiuma range it is a great alternative to a wet saw, not only is the Montolit manual cutter easier to setup than a wet saw but it is faster and cleaner at cutting, the same applies for the larger 125p3 and 155p3 cutters.
The simple answer to this is anyone who needs to cut large tiles, whether it be a professional tiler, plumber or even a keen DIYer, although the later needs to be able to justify the purchase price of the cutter – which in comparison to other manual tile cutting brands is very reasonable. There are other offerings in the MasterPiuma range that cater for smaller and larger tiles. The smaller Montolit 63P3 variation probably hits the sweet spot in terms of size.
1. Push Scribe Handle
The ergonomic handle provides powerful and accurate holding. This scribe handle is renowned as one of the most efficient levers of any tile cutter.
2. Patented Adjustable Scoring System
This indispensable feature simplifies and reduces the cutting time regardless of the various thickness and materials.
3. Patented Foldable Design
The quick and easy transportation including storage and set-up are easier than ever because of the foldable design. You don’t need to dismantle the snap tile cutter.
4. Lubrication System
The tile cutter has an integral lubrication system which aids cutting. A small lubrication pod can be inserted next to the cutting wheel which dispenses a small amount of lubricator as the scribe is moved along the tile.
5. Roller Adjuster System (R.A.S.)
The RAS Device is a cylinder constructed from anti-friction and anti-wear materials which always keeps contact with the bar, therefore eliminating lateral movement guaranteeing a perfect sliding action of the cutting head for previse scribing.
6. Die Cast Aluminium and Nickel-plated Steel Construction
The nickel-plated layer provides corrosion resistance and wear resistance. The die cast aluminium provides maximum strength and weather-resistance.
7. Cut-Off Device Made of No-scratch Plastic
The cut-off device is made of special non-scratch plastic.
Due to the foldable design of this tile cutter it is less cumbersome than many of it’s competitors, although the Montolit 93P3 is a large cutter it can still be manoeuvred like a smaller cutter and doesn’t need to be dismantled. Scribing the tiles is made easy thanks to the high quality of the scribe handle and the snapping action to break the tiles is effortless, although on some of the thicker tiles require more pressure as would be expected. The sprung base plates are a great feature which aid safe cutting.
The scribe handle is slightly longer than many other manual tile cutters and forms the perfect angle to act as an extension of your arm the result of which means than less pressure needs to be applied when scribing a tile.
The design of the cutting head means that, unlike almost every other manual tile cutter, it does not need to be pulled back slightly after scribing the tile, simply raise the handle slightly to allow the splitter to drop into place then apply a quick push on the end of the scribe handle to perform the cut. This increases the performance of the tile cutter which is especially useful when many tiles need to be cut.
Thanks to a Patented self-adjusting handle the MasterPiuma P3 tile cutters don’t need to be adjusted for thicker or thinner tiles.
The measurement bar and square stop also make the who process of producing accurate cuts quick and easy.
